Women's Volleyball Drops Penn State Abington in Straight Sets to Open 2016

GLENSIDE, Pa. – Sophomore Lizzie Joseph hit 62-percent with nine kills and one error on 13 attempts to lead the Arcadia University women's volleyball team to a 3-0 victory over Penn State Abington Thursday night at Alumni Gymnasium.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED: The Knights trailed 7-5 early in game-one before scoring 11 straight points to open a 16-7 lead on their way to a 25-12 win, which was capped off by a pair of service aces for freshman Shannon Ryan. Arcadia opened an early 6-1 lead on its way to a 25-17 win in game-two and appeared to be on its way to an easy win in the third game before the Nittany Lions used a 7-0 run to tie the game at 22. The final three points all went to Arcadia – with one kill for Joseph and a pair of attack errors for Abington's Sam Amaro – to complete the sweep.
 
ARCADIA LEADERS: In addition to Joseph, sophomore Becca Campf hit .438 with eight kills and one miscue on 16 attempts, while Ryan finished with five kills and a match-high four aces. Junior Colleen Stengel handed out a match-high 26 assists. Senior MaKenna Micklus had a match-high 10 digs to go with four kills.   
 
PENN STATE ABINGTON LEADERS: Amaro had a match-high 12 kills with five digs for the Nittany Lions, accounting 12 of their 28 total points scored in the match. Maddi Richard equaled Micklus' match0high total of 10 digs.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS: Arcadia hit .278 in the match, while Abington was a -.024. The Knights amassed 48 total points to the Nittany Lions 28, which included 32 kills, 10 aces and six blocks.
