WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Arcadia University women's tennis team opened the 2016-17 campaign with a 9-0 victory at Penn College Saturday, marking the first career win for first year head coach Pam Rendé as a collegiate women's tennis coach.
QUICK START: The Knights got out to an early 3-0 lead after sweeping the three doubles matches. Sophomore
Zoe Foglia and
Amanda Shulski were 8-2 winners over Melissa Stabley Morgan Blackwell , while seniors
Allyson Naiken and
Janelle Bradley were also 8-2 winners over Tiana McCormick and Maddie Wenk. Freshmen
Sarah Aschemeier and
Casey Boldt completed the doubles sweep by taking an 8-1 decision from Taylor Krow and Taylor Brooks.
COMPLETING THE SWEEP: The match was decided following the first round of singles play, which saw Foglia post a 6-2, 6-3 win over Stabley at No. 1, Shulski record a 6-1, 6-0 win over Blackwell at No. 2, and Naiken notch a 6-1,-6-1 win over McCormick at No. 3. Boldt went on to post a 6-3, 6-2 win over Wenk, while Aschmeier (8-6) and senior
Amy MacNeill (8-3) were pro set winners at No. 5 and No. 6, respectively.
