Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Haberbosch’s Two Goals, Kelly’s PK Give Women’s Soccer 3-1 Victory over No. 14/25 Misericordia

GLENSIDE, Pa. – Junior Jess Kelly converted a penalty kick in the 54th-minute to put the Arcadia University women's soccer team in front for good as it handed nationally-ranked Misericordia University its first loss of the season by a final count of 3-1.

RECORDS AND RANKINGS: The Knights, who entered the week receiving votes in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Coaches' Poll and D3Soccer.com Poll, remained undefeated for the season as their record moved to 8-0-0. The Cougars, who were ranked 14th in the NSCAA Coaches' Poll and 25th in the D3Soccer.com Poll, fell to 5-1-0 for the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED: The Knights never trailed in the game, and took an early 1-0 lead on junior Kayla Haberbosch's first goal of the game just 3:22 into the contest – the first allowed by Misericordia all season. She received a long pass along the right sideline and ripped a shot from just outside the box that landed in the upper left corner of the net. Misericordia tied the game just before the half off a corner kick as Kylen Smith placed a shot from the top of the box just under the crossbar to make it 1-1.

Arcadia regained the lead for good as Kelly scored on a PK following a handball in the box was called against the Cougars for her fourth goal of the season. The Knights kept the pressure on the rest of the way, and it finally paid off as freshman Karlie Flowers fed a centering pass to Haberbosch towards the top of the box and she was able to slide the ball inside the left post for her sixth goal of the year in the final minute of the match. Alyssa Pojero charged out of her net to challenge the play, but Haberbosh was able to place the ball out of her reach.

CLOSE CALLS: Arcadia easily could have added to its goal total for the day. Pojero was forced to make a number of saves under pressure, most notably when Flowers had a breakaway with seven minutes remaining. Amber Hartranft also had a golden opportunity going the other way with 17 minutes left in the first half with a one-on-one attempt on freshman keeper Taelor Rivera, who was up to the task and recorded a key save.

IN NET: Rivera totaled six saves in the match while running her record to 7-0-0 for the season. Pojero had four saves while seeing her record fall to 5-1-0

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: Arcadia won the game despite being outshot by the Cougars 15-11. Misericordia had three of the four corner kicks in the match.
