Women’s Volleyball Falls to Bethany and Mount Union at Carnegie Mellon Invitational

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Arcadia University women's volleyball team dropped a pair of 3-0 decisions to the University of Mount Union and Bethany College (W.Va.) Saturday at Carnegie Mellon's Doubletree Invitational Saturday. The Knights' record now stands at 5-9 for the season.
 
Mount Union 3, Arcadia 0 (11-25, 20-25, 11-25)
 
HOW IT HAPPENED: Mount Union (11-4) rolled to a 25-11 win in both the opening and deciding third games on its way to the sweep. The Knights used a 5-1 run to take a 14-12 lead midway through the second game before the Raiders scored six in a row to go up 18-14 on their way to a 25-20 win.
 
ARCADIA LEADERS: Freshman Shannon Ryan led the Knights with nine kills, while senior MaKenna Micklus added six kills. Sophomore Lizzie Joseph chipped in with five kills and five digs. Freshman Emily Eng (12 digs) and sophomore Kayla Resh (10 digs) led Arcadia defensively.
 
MOUNT UNION LEADERS: Caitlyn Synek totaled a match-high 10 kills while hitting 59-percent, while Morgan Chapman put down nine kills and hit 42-percent. Riley Schenk had a match-high 22 assists with five kills, five digs and three aces.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS: Mount Union hit 37-percent as a team as it notched 42 kills in the match, while Arcadia hit just 13-percent in the match with 26 kills. The Knights improved on their offensive efficiency in each set, hitting 32 percent with nine kills and in the third while committing just one error. The Raiders most efficient set was also the third, where they hit 59-percent and totaled 17 kills.
 
Bethany 3, Arcadia 0 (20-25, 9-25, 17-25)
 
HOW IT HAPPENED: Bethany never trailed in the first game and used a 5-1 run that gave it a 14-7 lead on its way to a 25-20 win. The Bison rolled to a 25-9 win the second game, and used an early six-point run to take control of the third before eventually closing out the Knights 25-17.
 
ARCADIA LEADERS: Ryan led the Knights with seven kills, while Eng totaled a match-high 14 digs. Junior Colleen Stengel and freshman Kaylee Bumpus had seven assists each.
 
BETHANY LEADERS: Dylana and Dakota MaKenzie led the way for the Bison. Dylana had a match-high nine kills with four digs, while Dakota added eight kills with five digs. Alexis Castro hit an impressive 78-percent in the match with seven kills and no errors on nine attempts. Reilly Parker had a team-high 13 digs.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:  Bethany hit 25-percent with 35 kills to record the win. The Knights struggled on offense all match, totaling just 18 kills while committing 25 attack errors.
