HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Arcadia University women's soccer team kept to its winning ways Sunday afternoon, as the Knights took down Washington and Lee 2-1 to win the Haverford Kickoff Classic. Juniors
Kayla Haberbosch and
Jess Kelly found the back of the net for the Scarlet and Grey, helping the team improve to 3-0 in the young season.
HOW IT HAPPENED: The Generals put pressure on early; however the Knights would make the best of their first chance as Haberbosch corralled the rebound of a blocked shot off the foot of senior
Karis Poore to beat the keeper in the 13th minute. Just over three minutes later, Kelly put on a dribbling clinic making her way through the middle of the box before firing the ball to the back of the net. Washington and Lee got on the board in the 61st minute to pull within one, but the Knight defense stood tall down the stretch to preserve the win.
IN GOAL: Rookie
Taelor Rivera (2-0) made her first career start in goal coming up big with seven saves to collect her second win in as many days. Maggie Nolan made two saves on the other end while taking the loss.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS: Each team fired seven shots in the opening 45 minutes of play, but Washington and Lee outshot the Knights 14-11 for the game with an 8-4 advantage in shots on goal. Arcadia took a corner kick in each half, with the Generals finishing the game with a total of seven.
UP NEXT: The Knights will play in the friendly confines of Easton Field for the first time this season when they play host to Ursinus this Wednesday. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
