GLENSIDE, Pa. – Fueled by a career-best 28 points from sophomore
Josh Scott, the Arcadia University men's basketball team dropped conference rival Stevenson 79-67 at Alumni Gymnasium. Scott went 11-15 from the floor, including 2-3 from beyond the arc, and converted 4-5 at the charity stripe. The Knights snapped a three-game losing streak to improve to 9-9 on the season with a 4-5 MAC Commonwealth record, while the Mustangs fell to 3-15 overall and 1-8 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED: The Knights set the tone early, forcing a Stevenson timeout just 51 seconds in, after scoring the game's first four points. That lead would increase to a dozen courtesy of a jumper from freshman
Emmanuel Anderson-Marrow for a 37-25 Arcadia lead with 4:08 to go until the break. The Knights went to the half up 43-34 after freshman
Will Derr closed first half scoring with a layup with 55 seconds to go.
Led by 14 points on 6-8 shooting from Scott, the Knights never trailed over the final 20 minutes of play. The Darby, Pennsylvania native deposited the first field goal of the second half on a fast break layup following a steal by classmate
Jordan Sanders. After Derr put the Knights in front 59-44 just ahead of the midway point of the second half, the Mustangs rattled off nine straight points to pull within six. Scott ended the spurt with a layup, before putting Arcadia back in control and up by 15 with a three with 5:24 to go
ARCADIA LEADERS: Scott's 28 points led all scorers, while classmate
Phil Pierfy added 15 and senior
Ryan Kelley scored 10 points. Sanders matched a game-high five assists, while classmate
Jason Rivera pulled in a team-best six rebounds.
STEVENSON LEADERS: The Mustangs were led by Cliff Cornish's 22 points on 7-8 shooting and 8-9 showing from the free throw line. Kyle Wooldridge, Ben Wiebusch and Walt English all tied for second on the team with eight points. English and Tim McNeal each hauled in a game-best eight rebounds, with Wiebusch matching the game-high in assists with five.
