Men’s Volleyball Sweeps Wilson to Cap Homestand

GLENSIDE, Pa. – The Arcadia University men's volleyball team posted a 3-0 victory over visiting Wilson College Tuesday night at Alumni Gymnasium, winning by game scores of 25-17, 25-20 and 25-13.

FOR THE RECORD: The Knights improved to 3-2 for the season, with each of the program's first five matches having been played in their home gym. The Phoenix fell to 1-4 with their fourth straight loss.

HOW IT HAPPENED: The Knights got off to a slow start, going down 9-5 following a five-point Wilson run in the early stages of the first set, and trailed by three before a kill by freshman Edwin Waters Jr. sparked a nine-point surge that put Arcadia up 20-14 before closing the opener with a 25-17 win. Four of those points during that run were service aces from freshman Jason Manley.

The Scarlet and Grey led the whole way in the middle set, but never could completely pull away as the Phoenix had an answer for each small run. Wilson scored three straight point to pull within two, 21-19, before the Knights closed the set with a 4-1 for the 25-20 final. After trading points early in the third Arcadia took control with an 8-1 run that put the Knights ahead 11-6 and used a series of runs to quickly put the set away with a 25-13 final.

ARCADIA LEADERS: Manley led the Knights with match-high totals of 12 kills and six aces while hitting .360 for the match. Freshman Bryce Galloway fell just short of a double-double with nine kills and a match-high eight digs while hitting .412, while classmate Austin Braas hit .556 with six kills on his nine attempts to go with three aces and three digs.

WILSON LEADERS: Nick Baxter led the Phoenix with nine kills and five digs, while Zachery McMaster added five kills and a pair of digs.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: Arcadia dominated the match, outscoring the Phoenix 54-21 while hitting 36.5 percent as a team. Wilson hit just 5.4 percent as a team with 18 kills and 14 errors.
