Women’s Volleyball Clinches First-Ever MAC Commonwealth Playoff Berth with Thrilling 3-2 Win Over Lycoming

GLENSIDE, Pa. – The Arcadia University women's volleyball team made history Tuesday night, clinching its first-ever MAC Commonwealth Championship berth with a 3-2 win over Lycoming. The Knights rallied to take the match's final three sets to claim the win in front of a raucous crowd in Alumni Gymnasium.

FROM THE COACH:
  • "The girls have been training and working super hard this season," said head coach Eli Porr. "We are excited to be able to represent our school in the conference playoffs with this victory tonight. I'm really proud of our girls for not giving up and just pushing and grinding until the end."
ON THE RECORD:
  • Arcadia holds a 14-8 overall record and 5-1 record in MAC Commonwealth play
  • The Warriors are 11-12 on the year and 1-5 in conference play
MAKING HISTORY:
  • The win guaranteed the Knights a spot in the MAC Commonwealth postseason for the first time since joining the league in 2008
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Warriors took the match's first two sets 25-23 and 25-19
  • Arcadia outlasted the visitors in the third set (25-23) and fourth set (27-25)
  • The Knights scored 11 of the first 15 points in the fifth set, before taking it 15-6
  • Sophomore Shannon Ryan recorded the match's last two points on kills
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • Ryan led all players with 19 kills, while adding eight digs, three blocks and three aces
  • Junior Katie Wilson made her presence felt with 15 kills, as classmate Lizzie Joseph added 12
  • Senior Colleen Stengel handed out 45 assists to lead all players
  • Sophomore Emily Eng recorded a match-high eight aces, and team-high 22 digs
  • Three Warriors recorded double-digit kills led by Lilly Singleton, while she was also one of three players with double-digit digs
NOTES:
  • The win is the first over Lycoming since 2009
  • Arcadia has won three of its last four matches
  • Stengel moved in to third place all-time in career assists with 1,377
  • Eng now sits in fourth place all-time in career digs with 741
STILL TO COME:
  • Arcadia travels to Susquehanna Thursday night for a 7 p.m. match
  • The Knights host its final two conference matches against Messiah (10/18) and Widener (10/26)
