GLENSIDE, Pa. – The Arcadia University women's soccer team scored three goals in the second half to down Lycoming 3-0 in MAC Commonwealth action Saturday night on Jean Lenox West Field.
FOR THE RECORD: The Knights moved to 9-4 on the season and are off to a 3-0 start to conference play. The Warriors dropped to 3-8-1 overall and 0-3 in conference action.
HOW IT HAPPENED: The Scarlet and Grey threatened early and often as it had six shots in the game's first five minutes; three of those shots went on target and one rang off the crossbar. In maintaining pressure throughout the first half, Arcadia took 15 total shots over the first 45 minutes of play.
The theme was the same in the second stanza as the Knights continued its onslaught of shots on goal. Junior
Mia Bertolami opened the scoring in the 68
th minute when she took a pass from senior
Jess Kelly across the top of the box before scoring in the lower right 90. Arcadia cashed in two more times, as freshman
Eva Ruppersberger met twine for the first time in her young career in the 82
nd minute and Kelly netted the final goal in the 87
th minute.
ARCADIA LEADERS: Kelly led the offense with 12 total shots, eight on goal, and her team-leading 12
th goal of the season along with an assist. Sophomore
Veronica Garcia put four of her five shot attempts on goal.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS: Arcadia outshot the opposition 30-7 on the night, including 20-5 in shots on target. The Knights mounting pressure led to eight corner kicks, while Lycoming only took three.
