Women’s Volleyball Stumbles in ECAC Opener Against Marymount

FROSTBURG, Md. – The top-seeded Arcadia University women's volleyball team dropped a 3-2 decision to second-seeded Marymount in the Quarterfinals of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Championship Tournament Saturday afternoon.
 
FOR THE RECORD:
  • The Knights conclude their season with a program-record 23-12 record
  • The Saints moved to 16-14
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Scarlet and Grey took the matches first two sets
  • The teams opened the first set alternating short runs before Marymount found itself in front late. Arcadia battled back with six straight points to tie the set at 23 before notching five of the last eight points.
  • After jostling for control for much of the second set, the Knights broke a 17-17 tie and went on to score eight of the next 11 points to claim the set 25-20.
  • The Saints changed the momentum with big runs in each of the final three sets
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • Arcadia totaled 66 points on 44 kills, two aces and 20 blocks
  • Marymount scored 75 points on 56 kills, 10 aces and nine blocks
  • Junior Katie Wilson dominated the net with 14  block assists, while sophomore Shannon Ryan chipped in seven and freshman Maddie Sehrt added five
  • Ryan, Wilson and junior Lizzie Joseph led the team's attack with nine kills each
  • Freshman Julia Paliwodzinski handed out 37 assists
  • Sophomore Emily Eng notched a match-high 32 digs
NOTES:
  • Wilson now owns the single-season program record with 60 block assists. Sehrt sits in second with 58.
  • The Knights close out the most successful season in program history with single-season records in kills (1,443), serve percentage (88.8%), reception percentage (91.2%) and block assists (317)
  • Eng moved into second place all-time in career digs (963)
  • Wilson's 14 block assists gave her the all-time program record, she has 105 career block assists
