Men’s Basketball Drops Second Game in Hawaii to Whitworth, 75-66

HONOLULU, Hawaii – Despite four players in double digits, the Arcadia University men's basketball team dropped its final game in the Hoops in Hawaii Thanksgiving Classic Saturday night, 75-66 against Whitworth.
 
ON THE RECORD:
  • The Knights fell to 3-2 on the season, ending their three game win streak.
  • The Pirates advanced to 5-0.
 HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Despite a 11-0 run to start the first half, the Knights were able to slow down the Pirates to later go on a 10-0 run of their own to cut the deficit to four with four minutes left in the half.
  • With eight seconds left on the clock, junior Josh Scott hit a jumper to pull the Knights ahead 31-30 heading. Arcadia would hold that lead into the half
  • In a back-and-forth second half, the Knights held a lead until the 6:47 mark as the Pirates took a one point lead, 56-55.
  • The Knights tried to fight back but couldn't overcome a 20-11 run by the Pirates in the final minutes of the half.
 INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • Junior Phil Pierfy led the charge for the Knights with 22 points, shooting six for nine from the floor. The Easton, Pa. native, also corralled six rebounds.
  • A pair of Philadelphia natives, senior Brandon Thompson and freshman Da'Kquan Davis also scored in double figures. Thompson with 13 points and Davis with 14.
  • Rounding out the double digit scorers was Scott who scored an even 10 points.
  • On the glass, sophomore Will Derr led the team with eight rebounds.
NOTES:
  • Pierfy and Davis were each named to the All-Tournament Team
 UP NEXT:
  • The Knights return home for a Wednesday night matchup against DeSales. Tip off is scheduled for 8:00 p.m.
