Cyr’s First Career Double-Double Helps Pave the Way for Program’s First Win Over DeSales

GLENSIDE, Pa. – In a thrilling 66-61 game Wednesday night, the Arcadia University women's basketball team picked up its first ever win over the DeSales Bulldogs. Arcadia was led by two Knights with double-doubles. Junior Camille Menns picked up her fourth-straight double-double (17 points and 11 rebounds) and sophomore Sydney Cyr notched her first-career double-double (13 points and 11 rebounds).

FOR THE RECORD:
  • The Knights advanced to 3-2 on the season following head coach Rose Katz-Gobeli's first ever victory over her alma mater and former head coach.
  • The Bulldogs also moved to 3-2 after Wednesday's game.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The first quarter was back-and-forth until the Knights went on an 8-0 run to jump out in front, 12-7. Cyr would see eight of her 13 points in the opening frame that ended with the Knights down, 16-14.
  • Into the second, the Bulldogs went on a 6-2 over the first 2:23 of the quarter to take a 22-16 led, their largest lead of the night. Just 45 seconds later, the Knights would start a 16-0 run that spanned the next 5:51. Over that period, the Knights saw six players score a point and shot 58% from the floor. Defensively, the Knights held the Bulldogs 0-7 from the field and forced three turnovers. Menns would make a buzzer beater at the end of the half, putting the Knights ahead, 36-28.
  • During the third, DeSales fought back, trying to take the lead, however the Knights shut the Bulldogs down. Arcadia led the entire quarter with freshman Kylie Fischer picking up six of her career-high 14 points. The Knights took a 50-48 lead into the fourth.
  • The final quarter started out much like the beginning of the game, neck-and-neck with the Bulldogs chipping away at the lead to tie it at 50. A minute and thirty seconds later, the Knights ripped off an 8-0 run to push ahead. Over the span, Arcadia was a perfect 3-3 from the field and 2-2 from the charity stripe. DeSales would hit a 7-0 run to come within one with under a minute to play, but the Knights buckled down and took the game, 69-65.

GAME NOTES:
  • Joining Menns, Cyr and Fischer in double figures was sophomore Taylor Dunn, who finished with 13 points and six assists.
