Women’s Swimming Sets Pool Record in 400 Freestyle Relay, Downs Albright in Dual Meet Action

GLENSIDE, Pa. – The Arcadia University women's swimming team entertained conference rival Albright Saturday afternoon picking up a 160-101 win. The Knights capped the meet in record-breaking fashion as freshman Madison McKay, junior Taylor Byers and sophomores Rachel Samson and Megan Hupp combined for a pool record 3:47.40 in the 400-yard freestyle relay.
 
FOR THE RECORD:
  • The Knights improve to 6-0 on the year

THE STREAK:
  • With the win, the Scarlet and Grey have come out triumphant in 15 straight dual meets
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The day opened with the 200-yard medley relay, in which the Knights claimed second and third place points. Byers, McKay and Hupp teamed with sophomore Eunice Ardamoy in the runner-up spot with a 1:54.59 finish, followed by the team of seniors Rose Georgias and Lindsay Fortier, sophomore Marissa Kirkendoll and freshman Kenzie Myer with a 2:03.92.
  • The Scarlet and Grey opened individual competition with a sweep of the top three spots in the 1000-yard freestyle. Hupp set the pace at 10:50.73, followed by junior Alyssa D'Esposito at 11:21.02 and sophomore Bekah Brown at 11:21.48.
  • Another 1-2-3 finish came in the 500-yard free style, where sophomore Bailey Babarsky paced the field with a 5:29.19. Brown followed with a 5:43.82 and sophomore Annalise Christy finished at 5:52.93.
  • Ardamoy claimed a pair of individual wins, as she led the way in the 100 and 200-yard backstroke with times of 1:02.04 and 2:21.45, respectively. Senior Lucy Reilly claimed third in the 100-yard backstroke at 1:10.29. D'Esposito and Fortier completed the 1-2-3 finish in the 200-yard race with times of 2:23.23 and 2:32.27, respectively.
  • Other winners included McKay's 25.26 in the 50-yard freestyle, Hupp in the 100-yard freestyle (55.89) and Samson in the 200-yard IM (2:20.06)
  • Samson registered second place points in the 200-yard freestyle (2:01.98) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:42.07).
  • Byers and Babarsky finished second and third in the 100-yard breaststroke with 1:12.01 and 1:13.92 finishes, respectively. McKay and Georgias took second and third in the 100-yard butterfly with times of 1:01.13 and 1:06.29, respectively.
NOTES:
  • The Knights have beaten Albright three straight years
  • Along with Arcadia's 400-yard freestyle relay record, Albright's Ashlyn Chermol set pool records in the 100-yard (1:00.70) and 200-yard butterfly (2:15.97).

  • Arcadia travels to Franklin and Marshall Friday night.
