Women’s Basketball Falls Short to Widener in Home Finale, 83-73

Box Score GLENSIDE, Pa. – The Arcadia University women's basketball team closed out the home portion of its schedule, falling 83-73 to Widener Tuesday night at Alumni Gymnasium. The loss dropped the Knights to 7-17 on the season and 3-12 in conference play, while the Pride improved to 8-16 overall and 5-10 in the MAC Commonwealth.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED: The Knights led by as many as 11 points in a first half which saw them shoot 44.1% (15-34) from the floor; that led came as part of an 11-4 run to end the first half before taking a 35-25 led to the break. Senior Maureen Fiocca led all scorers over the opening 20 minutes with 15 points.
 
The second half wouldn't be quite so friendly to Arcadia, as the visitors chipped away at the Knight lead to tie the game at 50 with 1:43 to go in the third, before a pair of Emily Hardy free throws put the Pride in front for the first time with 1:15 to go in the frame. Fiocca gave the Knights a 59-57 lead 1:12 into the fourth quarter before the Pride closed the game on a 26-14 run by  going 5-7 from the field, including 3-4 from distance, and converting 13-16 at the free throw line over the final 8:48.
 
ARCADIA LEADERS: Fiocca tied a single-game program record with 34 points on 42.4% (14-33) shooting from the field to lead the Knights' offense, while besting all players with eight rebounds. Sophomore Susan Bossler joined Fiocca in double-figures with 15 points.
 
WIDENER LEADERS: Devan Rimmer led all scorers with 37 points on 12-16 shooting, while being joined in double-figures by Allison Gallagher with 15 points. Gallagher, along with Emily Hardy and Aly Furgiuele led the team with seven rebounds.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS: Arcadia finished the game shooting 38.9% (28-72) from the floor, including 6-22 from distance, while going 11-15 at the charity stripe. The Pride shot 45.5% (25-55) for the game, including 43.8% from beyond the arc, while going 19-24 at the charity stripe.
