Men’s Volleyball Blasts York (N.Y.) in Three Sets

JAMAICA, N.Y. – The Arcadia University men's volleyball team dominated host York College (N.Y.) Tuesday night, winning the match 3-0 by game scores of 25-15, 25-13 and 25-18.
 
FOR THE RECORD: The Knights improved to 9-10 with the victory, while the Cardinals fell to 3-10 with their third straight loss.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED: The Knights lead was just three in the opener before a kill from freshman Robie Moctezuma started a 5-1 run that pushed their advantage to 16-9 following an ace from classmate Edwin Waters Jr. A three-point surge extended their advantage to 19-11 before another three-point run sealed the 25-15 win.
 
The Cardinals scored each of the first four points in the second game and led 8-6 following a kill from Burrel Kirk Murray before a 7-1 Arcadia run that was capped by an ace for freshman Jason Manley put the Knights in front for good. Arcadia rattled off five straight points shortly after and closed the game with a three-point run to close out a 25-13 decision to give the Knights a 2-0 lead in the match.
 
The two team traded runs in the third, which saw Arcadia up 18-14 before a 3-0 run capped by a kill from freshman Evan Misal created some separation for the Knights. Senior Sean Cohen closed out the final game with a kill for the 25-18 final.
 
ARCADIA LEADERS: The Knights spread the ball around in this one, with seven players totaling at least five kills. Moctezuma led the way, hitting .438 with a match-high 10 kills to go with five blocks. Freshman Bryce Galloway and Manley both finished with six kills and five digs; freshman Austin Braas and Waters Jr. also had six kills in the match. Cohen finished with a match-high 32 assists.
 
YORK LEADERS: Kirk Murray had three kills with four digs for the Cardinals. Neko Lytte hit .500 with two kills on his four attack attempts.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS: The Knights outscored the Cardinals 60-18 while hitting .293 as a team. Arcadia hit .367 in the first game and .435 in the second. York put up a negative hitting number (-.103) for the match after totaling just 11 kills with 17 attack errors.
