LEESBURG, Fla. – The Arcadia University softball team continued its spring break trip in Florida with a split Tuesday morning in Leesburg. The Knights fell to Millsaps 8-0 in six innings to open the day, before taking down Lake Forest 1-0 in eight innings.
FOR THE RECORD: The Knights are now 4-2 on the season. Millsaps improved to 14-5, while Lake Forest fell to 2-4 including a loss to Millikin earlier in the day.
ARCADIA 1, LAKE FOREST 0 (8 INNINGS)
HOW IT HAPPENED: After the game's leadoff batter reached third on a passed ball, neither pitcher allowed a runner past second base until extra innings. With the game scoreless entering the eighth, Quinn Jagodzinski was placed on second to start the inning for the Foresters. She moved to third on a one-out sacrifice bunt by Maria Zepeda before Riley Frisbie flied out to the shortstop to end the inning.
The Knights' half of the eighth was more successful. Freshman
Bekah Good started the frame on second, before advancing to third on a sacrifice bunt by junior
Kaylee Zarick. Two batters later, with Good still on third and senior
Samantha Quigley on first following a pinch hit, infield single, sophomore
Jackie Bilotti drove in the game-winning run with a single to right field on the first pitch she saw.
ARCADIA LEADERS: Billoti led the Arcadia offense, going 2-4 at the dish. Quigley and sophomore
Kristin Cancelliere each recorded one hit.
LAKE FOREST LEADERS: Zepeda, Frisbie, Jagodzinski, Kat Beall and Sydney Wyatt registered one base hit each.
IN THE CIRCLE: Freshman
Mary Pat Murray (2-0) tossed her second extra-inning complete game in as many days, shutting out the Foresters while allowing five hits with one walk and 10 strikeouts. Jenn McTague (1-2) took the loss for Lake Forest, allowing one unearned run in 7.1 innings while allowing four hits with seven strike outs.
MILLSAPS 8, ARCADIA 0 (6 INNINGS)
HOW IT HAPPENED: The Majors spread their offense, scoring in the second, fourth, fifth and sixth innings. Kaitlyn Casias drove in the first run on a bases loaded walk in the second, before Kat Romero hit a two-run home run to left in the fourth. Millsaps tacked on four more in the fifth, before the game-ending run came on a Rayner Leblanc RBI single to left in the sixth.
ARCADIA LEADERS: Sophomore
Kayla Resh recorded a double in the top of the fifth, while Cancelliere singled in the top of the sixth.
MILLSAPS LEADERS: Rayne Gravat went 3-4 at the plate, with two runs scored to led the Majors; Blair Little also scored twice. Megan Murray had a multi-hit game, going 2-3 with two RBI.
IN THE CIRCLE: Kayla Davidson (8-2) picked up the win allowing two hits over six innings with a walk and 12 strikeouts. Freshman
Kylee Schwind (2-1) took the loss, allowing four runs on four hits with four walks and three strikeouts in four innings of work. Resh threw 1.1 innings allowing four runs (three earned) on four hits with four walks and a strikeout.
