GLENSIDE , Pa. – The Arcadia University softball team fell to Stevens Tech 4-0 and 6-5 in its home opener on a chilly Thursday night on Blankley Field. The Knights fall to 8-4 on the season, while Ducks improve to 10-4.
GAME 1: STEVENS 4, ARCADIA 0
HOW IT HAPPENED: The Ducks posted three of their four runs in the top of the third. Emily Sellitti opened the scoring with a two-RBI double to left center. Two batters later, Corrine Loncar sent a single up the middle to score Sellitti from third. The Knights threatened in the bottom of the fourth, when the first three batters reached safely. Stevens tacked on one more run in bottom of the sixth, when Olivia Gemma plated Lauren Shirley on a sacrifice fly.
ARCADIA AT THE PLATE: Freshman
Mary Pat Murray led Arcadia at the plate with a 2-4 outing, while classmate
Tori Zangrilli registered one hit.
STEVENS TECH: Six different Ducks recorded hits, while Sellitti led the way with two RBI.
IN THE CIRCLE: Christine LaRochelle (5-2) earned the win for Stevens throwing seven innings with six walks and nine strikeouts. Freshman
Kylee Schwind (4-2) suffered the loss, allowing four runs on six hits with three strikeouts.
GAME 2: STEVENS 6, ARCADIA 5
HOW IT HAPPENED: The Ducks struck first when Lauren Shirley doubled to right to plate Loncar. The Knights retaliated in the bottom of the second, when freshman
Julia Gessner's first career hit, a double down the left field line, scored junior
Nicole Iasiello. A
Kristin Cancelliere double to left field plated sophomore
Jackie Bilotti in the top of the third to put the Knights in front for the first time in the game.
With the score 2-1 in favor of the Knights, Shirley plated two runs with a double to right center before being thrown out trying to leg out a triple. Arcadia regained the lead in the bottom half of the frame when Cancelliere scored on a Zangrilli single through the left side after plating Bilotti with a double two batters earlier.
The sixth inning saw the teams trade runs, as Samantha Schattin singled to short to plate Amanda DiLeo in the top half of the frame before Iasiello recorded her first round-tripper of the season to put Arcadia in front 5-4 heading to the seventh. DiLeo plated two runs in the top of the seventh with a double to right center.
ARCADIA AT THE PLATE: Bilotti (2-3), Cancelliere (2-4) and Iasiello (2-3) all posted multi-hit games for the Knights, with Bilotti and Iasiello each scoring twice. Cancelliere led the team with two RBI.
STEVENS AT THE PLATE: Farryl Groder (3-4) and Shirley (4-4) led the Ducks' offense, with Shirley driving in three runs. DiLeo drove in two runs, while going 2-4.
IN THE CIRCLE: Marissa Cappello (2-2) picked up the win in relief, allowing one run on one hit with five strikeouts in two innings of work. Gemma got the start, allowing four runs on seven hits with a walk and five strikeouts. Murray (3-1) took the loss, allowing six runs on 13 hits with a walk and four strikeouts.
