Baseball Edged in Series Finale at Lebanon Valley

ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Arcadia University baseball team dropped a 7-6 decision in the third game of a three-game set against conference rival Lebanon Valley Monday afternoon. After the Knights tied the game at six in the top of the eighth, Chase Weik sent an RBI single to right field with two outs in the bottom of the ninth , driving in the walk-off run.
 
FOR THE RECORD: The Knights fall to 13-5 on the season and 4-2 in MAC Commonwealth play. The Dutchmen now sit at 10-6 overall and 4-2 in conference play.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED: Junior Nick Cardace opened the scoring in the top of the first with a two-out, two-run home run over the wall in left center. The Dutchmen got both runs back in the bottom of the frame on a two-RBI single to center from Joshua Marcelli with two outs.
 
Sophomore Bryan Gillen led off the top of the third with his second home run of the season to put the Knights back in front by one. Four batters later, after the Dutchmen made a pitching change, senior Justin Chasmar plated sophomore Luke Hohenstein from third with a double to right field. Hohenstein reached on a double to left following Gillen's homer.
 
The Knights led 5-3 heading to the bottom of the sixth, before the hosts plated three runs. With the bases loaded and one out, Zac Edwards sent a single through the left side to plate a pair of runs, before Michael Puglisi singled through the left side in the next at-bat to plate the third run of the inning.
 
After leading off the eighth with a single to left center, junior Drew Coisson scored from third on a groundout by senior Jordan Draude to tie the game at six. The Knights were retired in order in the top of the ninth, before Weik's walk-off single with two out in the bottom of the ninth.
 
ARCADIA AT THE PLATE: Cardace led the Knights' offense with a 3-4 outing, including a home run, two RBI and a run scored. Gillen, Hohenstein and Chasmar each recorded two base hits.
 
LEBANON VALLEY AT THE PLATE: Edwards went 4-5 at the dish with a double, three RBI and a run scored to lead the Dutchmen. Weik had a 2-4 day, while six other players registered a base hit.
 
ON THE HILL: Senior Joseph Warren (3-1) took the loss in relief after coming in with one out in the bottom of the ninth. Tyler Showers got the start for Arcadia, allowing six runs on seven hits with three walks and two strikeouts in 5.1 innings of work. Casey Wall (2-2) picked up the win in relief after throwing one shutout inning. Timothy Holdredge got the start, allowing four runs on five hits with one strikeout in 2.2 innings of work.
