PHILADELPHIA – The Arcadia University baseball team fell to third-ranked Cortland 23-3 Thursday afternoon at Erny Field. The game was halted in the top of the eighth due to darkness.
FOR THE RECORD: Cortland improved to 6-2 this season with the victory, while the Knights fell to 4-2. This was the first-ever meeting between the two programs.
HOW IT HAPPENED: Following scoreless two innings to start the game, the Red Dragons posted a pair of runs in the top of the third as Steven Figueroa and Justin Teague each registered sac-flies to score Jon Warner and Tyler Phillips. The Knights answered with a run in the bottom half of the frame when junior
Drew Coisson, who reached on a leadoff walk, crossed the plate after senior
Justin Chasmar sent a one-out double down the right field line. A six-run top of the fourth and a 13-run top of the sixth put Cortland in control the rest of the way.
ON THE HILL: sophomore
Mike Boulanger (0-2) got the start for the Knights, allowing six runs (four earned) on nine hits with one strikeout in 3.1 innings of work. Andrew Barnes got the win for Cortland, throwing 3.1 innings on a pitch count and allowing one run on three hits with five strikeouts and two walks.
ARCADIA LEADERS: Chasmar went 2 for 3 at the plate with a double and one RBI, while sophomore
Bryan Gillen finished 2 for 4 with one double, one triple and a run scored. Freshman
Teddy Gonzalez was 1 for 2 with a run scored.
CORTLAND LEADERS: Warner finished 3 for 4 with two runs scored from the leadoff spot, while Jack Massa was 3 for 5 with a double, three RBI and a run scored. Patrick Schetter went 4 for 6 with a double, four RBI and two runs scored, and Matt Michalski was 3 for 5 with three runs scored and three runs driven in.
