Baseball Takes Down No. 28 Misericordia, Draude Ties Single-Season Home Run Record

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Arcadia University baseball team registered an 8-3 non-conference win over nationally-ranked Misericordia University Tuesday afternoon at Erny Field, which saw senior Jordan Draude crush his conference-leading and program record-tying eighth home run of the year.
 
FOR THE RECORD: The Knights improved to 23-8 for the season after recording their ninth win in 10 games. The Cougars fell to 18-8 with the loss.
 
IN THE POLLS: Arcadia is receiving votes in this week's American Baseball Coaches Association/Collegiate Baseball and D3Baseball.com/National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association polls. Misericordia is ranked 28th in the nation in this week's ABCA/Collegiate Baseball Poll, and is also receiving votes in the D3Baseball.com/NCBWA Poll.
 
ON THE HILL: Freshman Jeremy Sabathne improved to 2-1 after allowing two runs (one earned) while scattering seven hits over his five-plus innings of work, while junior Connor Laigaie picked up his picked up his first career save after tossing four scoreless innings of relief. Drake Koch fell to 1-1 for the Cougars after giving up seven runs on 10 hits over 5.2 innings.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED: It was a 1-1 game heading to the bottom of the fifth, where the Knights plated four runs to take the lead for good. Junior Drew Coisson scored from third on sophomore Luke Hohenstein's double down the right field line before Draude drove a 1-2 pitch over the fence in left field power alley. Sophomore Sean Carew added an RBI-single that scored junior Nick Cardace to give Arcadia 5-1 lead.
 
Misericordia got back on the board with two runs in the top of the sixth as Billy Kerwien drew a bases-loaded walk to force home Sean Lyons before Jeremy DeCotiis scored on Parker Abate's sacrifice fly to center field. Arcadia got both of those runs back in the bottom of the frame when Coisson and Hohenstein scored on Cardace's single to center, and senior Justin Chasmar drove in Hohenstein with an infield single in the eighth for the 8-3 final.
 
ARCADIA AT BAT: Draude was 3 for 5 with a two-run homer for the Knights, while Chasmar was 2 for 5 with an RBI and a run scored. Coisson finished 2 for 4 with a double and two runs scored, while Hohenstein finished the day 1 for 3 with a double, a pair of walks, three runs scored an on run driven in. Cardace went 1 for 4 with two RBI and a run scored.
 
MISERICORDIA AT BAT: Kenny Jarema was 3 for 5 with a double from the leadoff spot in the order for the Cougars, while DeCotiis and Lyons both went 2 for 4 and accounted for all three runs scored.
