Nick Cardace launched back-to-back homeruns in the fourth inning as the Arcadia University baseball team's offense erupted in a 14-1 MAC Commonwealth victory over Hood College Sunday afternoon at Erny Field.
FOR THE RECORD: The Knights, who are receiving votes in this week's American Baseball Coaches Association/Collegiate Baseball Poll, improved to 15-7 overall and 6-3 in conference play with the win, which also gave them a 2-1 win in the season series with the Blazers. Hood's record now stands at 5-14 overall and 2-7 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED: The Knights put five runs on the board in the bottom of the first to take control of the game. Each of the firth three batters reach base to start the game, and all three scored on Cardace's bases-clearing double to the gap in left-center. Senior
Justin Chasmar followed with a single to right to plate Cardace before later scoring himself on a squeeze play. Arcadia would score at least one run in six of its eight trips to the plate, scoring two runs in the fourth and fifth innings and plating three runs in the seventh.
ON THE HILL: Senior
Joseph Warren improved to 4-0 for the season after yielding one run on four hits while striking out seven batters over six innings. Freshman

Joel Bartoni and freshman
Tyler Showers combined to shut out the Blazers over the final three innings. Jake Franke (0-1) took the loss after allowing six runs on eight hits over his three innings of work.
ARCADIA AT BAT: Cardace fell a triple short of the cycle after going 4 for 4 with four RBI and four runs scored, while Chasmar finished 3 for 4 with three RBI and a run scored. Sophomore
Nick Ponente was 2 for 3 with two runs scored and another driven in, while Draude finished 2 for 5 with two runs scored an RBI. Junior
Drew Coisson went 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored, while sophomore
Sean Carew was 2 for 4 with a run scored.
HOOD AT BAT: Dylan Johnson was 2 for 3 with an RBI, while Brooks Warrenfeltz was 1 for 2 with a run scored.
