No. 1 Softball Advances to ECAC Title Game with 2-1 Walk-Off Victory over No. 4 NYU

GLENSIDE, Pa. – Junior Kaylee Zarick scored from third on freshman Bekah Good's sac fly in the bottom of the 10th to give the top-seeded Arcadia University softball team a 2-1 win over fourth-seeded New York University to open the semifinal round of play in the 2017 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Softball Championship Tournament Sunday at Blankley Field.

NEXT UP: The Knights will face the winner of today's second semifinal, which will feature second-seeded Stockton versus sixth-seeded Penn State Altoona at 1 p.m. at Blankley Field. The title game is tentatively scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.

FOR THE RECORD: The Knights improved to 29-13 with the win; a victory in today's championship game would give Arcadia its second consecutive ECAC title and 30 wins for just the fourth time in program history. The Violets ended the year at 19-19.

HOW IT HAPPENED: Arcadia staked itself to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third as freshman Mary Pat Murray singled to the shortstop, allowing sophomore Jackie Bilotti to score all the way from second with two outs in the frame. The score stayed the way until the top of the seventh when Jacqueline Finn drove a 2-2 offering over the left field fence with two outs in the inning to tie the game.

The game moved to extras, where the international tie-breaker came into play in the 10th inning. Zarick was placed on second to start the inning and moved to third on sophomore Kayla Resh's sacrifice bunt before Good entered the game as a pinch hitter and lifted the first pitch she faced into foul territory in left, which was deep enough to allow Zarick to score the game-winning run.

IN THE CIRCLE: Freshman Kylee Schwind went the distance to improve to 15-8 this season, allowing one earned run on four hits with six Ks. She struck out Scarlett Murphy to start the top of the 10th before getting Diana King to hit into a double play to end the inning. Murphy fell to 3-3 with the loss for NYU after yielding one unearned run over four hitless innings of relief. Cassi Parulis didn't factor in the decision after allowing one run on five hits in her 4.1 innings of work.

ARCADIA AT BAT: The Knights had five total hits in the game, which saw Bilotti go 2 for 4 with a triple. Tori Zangrilli was 1 for 3 with a double, while junior Amanda Hess and Murry were 1 for 4 in the game.
