GLENSIDE, Pa. – The 20
th-ranked Arcadia University women's soccer team picked up its third straight win Sunday afternoon, 3-2 over Muhlenberg. Senior
Jess Kelly scored two goals for the Knights, including the game-winner.
FOR THE RECORD: The win moves Arcadia to 4-1 on the season, while Muhlenberg falls to 2-2.
HOW IT HAPPENED: The visitors got on the board first, and took a 1-0 lead to halftime on a goal by Sarah Hunter in the 23
rd minute. The lead wouldn't last long into the second half as Kelly converted a penalty kick 49 seconds into the frame. Sophomore
Veronica Garcia put the Scarlet and Grey up 2-1 in the 64
th minute after she collected the rebound from a shot from classmate
Amanda McHugh and put it in the back of the net.
The Mules came fighting back, tying the game in the 87
th minute on a goal from Casarah Morales. The Knights responded with pressure over the last two and a half minutes. Junior
Stephanie Maggio lined up a corner with less than a minute to go finding the foot of Kelly for the game winner.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS: Arcadia outshot the Mules 14-11 in the contests, including 11-5 in the second half. The Knights took eight corners compared to Muhlenberg's three, however were called for 12 fouls while the Mules were called for five.
IN GOAL: Freshman
Brianna Williams made four saves in the win as she moved to 4-1 on the year. Melissa D'Alessandro denied two shots in the loss.
