GLENSIDE, Pa. – The Arcadia University women's volleyball team extended its winning streak to five matches with a 3-0 MAC Commonwealth victory over visiting Albright College Tuesday night at Alumni Gymnasium.
FOR THE RECORD: The Knights improved to 5-1 for the season overall and are now 2-0 in MAC Commonwealth matches. The Lions fell to 1-6 overall after dropping their first league match of the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED: Arcadia scored 12 of the first 15 points in the opening game and closed it out with six straight kills on its way to a 25-10 win. Freshman
Maddie Sehrt capped the final run with a kill to give Arcadia a 1-0 lead in the match. Arcadia built a 24-14 lead in the second before a four-point run by Albright closed the gap to 24-18. That run was halted on a block by senior
Colleen Stengel and
Becca Campf for the 25-18 final.
Arcadia pulled away in the third set with a five-point run that included a pair of aces for sophomore
Emily Eng to go up 10-5, and the Knights managed to maintain that advantage the rest of the game as they took it 25-19 to complete the sweep. Junior
Katie Wilson scored a kill for the final point of the match.
ARCADIA LEADERS: Freshmen
Allison Elechko and
Lauren Enfield had nearly identical offensive numbers to lead the Knights. Elechko hit .375 with 12 kills and three errors one 24 attempts, while Enfield hit .333 after registering 12 kills and four errors on 24 attempts. Enfield was second on the team with eight digs. Junior
Lizzie Joseph hit .462 with six kills on 13 attempts, while Campf hit .500 with five kills and one error on her eight swings.
Freshman
Julia Paliwodzinski handed out 20 assists to go with four digs, while Stengel finished with 19 assists. Eng led the Knights with 10 digs.
ALBRIGHT LEADERS: Kellie Hill had five kills and six digs to lead the Lions. Bryana Chambers and Claudia Guise had four kills each.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS: Arcadia outscored Albright 63-23 in the match, totaling 43 kills while hitting .348 as a team. The Knights also totaled 12 aces and eight blocks in the match.
