COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The 20
th-ranked Arcadia University women's soccer team used a hot start to claim a 5-0 win at Ursinus Wednesday night.
FOR THE RECORD: The win moved the Knights to 2-1 on the season, while the Bears fell to 0-2-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED: Senior
Jess Kelly got the offense going less than a minute in, as she put Arcadia up one after finishing a free kick from junior
Stephanie Maggio 54 seconds after the opening whistle. Sophomore
Amanda McHugh followed up with the first two goals of her collegiate career. The first came in the 14
th minute when she deflected a Maggio corner kick into the bottom left corner of the goal, then again 15 minutes later when she chipped a shot in from the top of the box on a breakaway.
The career firsts continued as the last two goals came off the feet of freshmen.
Kayla Murphy tapped in her first career tally in the 36
th minute, before
Sarah Walsh netted her first a minute and a half later.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS: Arcadia outshot Ursinus 14-6 in the game, including 7-4 in shots on goal, while taking five corners compared to the host's three. The Knights were called for 11 fouls with Ursinus committing seven.
IN GOAL: Freshman
Brianna Williams (2-1) picked up her first career shutout as she made four saves. Marisa Kalkstein (0-2-1) took the loss after allowing five goals and making two saves in 40:08 of work. Sarah Embley finished the game without making a save.
