Dominant Fourth Quarter Keys Women’s Basketball to Comeback Win Over Widener, 71-68

GLENSIDE, Pa. – Six different players found the bottom of the net in a dominate fourth quarter to lead the Arcadia women's basketball team to a 71-68 come-from-behind win over Widener Wednesday night.  Sophomore Sydney Cyr led all scorers with seven points over the final 10 minutes, while the Knights' defense held the Pride to just one field goal.

FOR THE RECORD:
  • The Scarlet and Grey now own an 8-9 record on the year, with a 3-5 conference mark.
  • Widener dropped to 9-8 overall and 3-5 in the MAC Commonwealth.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Trailing 22-15 after the first quarter, the Knights scored 13 of the first 17 points in the second frame. Efficient shooting from both the field (4-of-8) and charity stripe (5-of-7) fueled the run, which was led by junior Camille Menns' six points. The defense held the Pride to 2-of-13 shooting, including 0-for-5 from long range over the first 5:26 of the frame. Widener, however, ended the half on a 16-8 run to take a 42-36 lead to the break.
  • Widener edged the Knights in third quarter scoring, 19-12, to take a 61-48 lead into the fourth quarter.
  • Arcadia quickly cut the deficit to eight points after scoring the first five points of the final stanza in the first two minutes. After a pair of free throws increased the deficit back to 10, the Knights shot 5-of-6 from the floor over a 3:52 span and forced three turnovers while scoring 12 straight points to claim a 65-63 lead with 2:59 to go in regulation.
  • The final 2:36 went back-and-forth, with the Knights hanging on for the win.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • Sophomore Taylor Dunn led three Knights in double-figures with 19 points. Cyr added 15, while Menns contributed 12.
  • Cyr and Menns tied freshman Taylor Fritz with a team-leading six rebounds. The overall rebounding battle favored Arcadia by a 40-39 margin.
  • As a team, the Scarlet and Grey shot 43.1% on the night, including 3-of-7 from long range, and 72% from the free throw line.
NOTES:
  • The win snaps a three-game losing streak for Arcadia.
  • Dunn has reached double-figures in 12 games this season.
  • Cyr has scored double-figures in four of the last five games.
  • This marks the Knights' first win over the Pride since February 2016.
