GLENSIDE, Pa. – The Arcadia men's basketball team got back in the win column Wednesday night, downing conference rival Widener 79-57. Leading the charge was freshman
Da'Kquan Davis with 22 points, while juniors
Phil Pierfy and
Josh Scott and senior
Brandon Thompson also deposited double-digit points.
FOR THE RECORD:
- The Scarlet and Grey jump to 9-8 on the year and even its conference mark at 4-4.
- The Pride fell to 8-8 overall and 2-6 against MAC Commonwealth competition.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Arcadia stormed out of the gate shooting 7-of-16 from the floor, including 3-of-6 from long range over the first 10 minutes of play. Davis netted eight points in the span to lead Arcadia to a 19-9 advantage midway through the first half.
- The Knights led by as many as 21 points in the opening stanza. Their 42-23 halftime lead was highlighted by a 50% shooting effort and 17 points from Davis.
- Aside from a quick nine-point spurt from Widener, the start of the second half was nearly even. The Knights would, however, use a 14-4 run over a 4:18 span to open a game-high 26-point lead, 68-42, with 7:09 to go in regulation. Six different players scored in the span.
- The final 6:55 went much like the start of the half, as Widener attempted to cut into its deficit but was unsuccessful.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Davis' 22 led all scorers, followed by Pierfy with 21, Scott with 11 and Thompson with 10.
- Scott completed the double-double with a game-high 11 rebounds and neared a triple-double with nine assists.
- Overall, the Knights controlled the boards 47-34.
- The offense shot 46.9% from the field on the night, including 42.1% from distance, and converted 11-of-16 free throws.
- The defense held the Pride to just 18-of-57 shooting from the floor, including 7-of-24 from beyond the arc.
- The paint belonged to Arcadia, as the Knights outscored the opposition 40-22 in the post.
NOTES:
- Scott neared a triple-double twice in the past two weeks.
- Arcadia has won three of its last four games.
