READING, Pa. -- The Alvernia field hockey team picked up a late goal in a 1-0 win over Arcadia on Wednesday evening.

Andrea Zimmerman scored at the 56:25 mark for the game's only goal, in a contest that determined the MAC Commonwealth's No. 2 seed and home field advantage in the upcoming championships. The Knights are currently 12-5 overall and 5-2 in the league. The Golden Wolves are 10-7 overall and 5-2 in the MAC Commonwealth.

Zimmerman's goal came when Morgan Mondschein found her open on the left post, and Zimmerman put her shot into the right corner.

The Knights weathered a first-half storm in which they were outshot 12-1, and earned two penalty corners to eight for Alvernia, and played to a 0-0 tie through the first 35 minutes. Shots tightened up in the second half, with Alvernia holding 9-5 advantage, and penalty corners were 5-3 in the Golden Wolves' favor.

Late in the contest, with the Knights' goalie having been pulled, Arcadia's
Lindsay Bechtold put a shot on cage, but Maria Panettieri kept it out of the cage with 25 seconds to play.

IN GOAL:
Ashton Evans played 67:54 in goal before coming out. She made seven saves and allowed one goal.
Sydney Cyr recorded her team-leading eighth defensive save of the year.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: Despite holding a 21-6 edge in shots, the Golden Wolves only had 9-5 lead in shots on goal … Cyr's eight defensive saves not only lead the team, but she is the only player to record any defensive saves for the Knights.
