GLENSIDE, Pa. -- The Arcadia men's basketball team picked up its first win of the season with a 79-58 win over Susquehanna on Tuesday night at Alumni Gymnasium.

The Knights held the River Hawks (0-1) to 32.3 percent shooting (20-62) on the night, and used a balanced offense to improve to 1-1 on the season. Six different Knights scored at last eight points and no player had more than 11.

Arcadia's defense fueled a pair of first-half runs that enabled the Knights to take at 35-24 lead into the break. Trailing 13-12 with 12:41 left in the first half, Arcadia outscored the River Hawks 17-6 over the next 5:51 to assume a 29-19 lead with 6:50 on the clock. Da'Kquan Davis,
Kyle Reilly and
Steve Pendleton, and
Jon Lott added a pair of layups, while the AU defense limited the River Hawks to 2 of 7 shooting with three turnovers.

The Arcadia offense cooled off a little heading into the break, but the Knights' defense remained stout, allowing just one Susquehanna field goal in the final six minutes en route to a 35-24 lead at the half.

In the second half, a three by Davis opened the scoring, but SU answered with a 12-4 run to pull within 42-36 on a Bryce Butler layup with 14:03 on the clock. Butler scored six of the River Hawks' 12 points during the run.

The lead still stood at six (49-43) with 10:00 left following a triple from Susquehanna's Joel Morris, before the Knights put together one final burst to seal the win. A 14-3 surge, capped by back-to-back triples from Reilly in the corner, gave the Knights a 63-46 cushion with 6:28 on the clock. The River Hawks never got closer than 14 the rest of the way.

Davis,
Evan Slone and Reilly all had 11 points to lead the Knights.
Josh Scott and
Phil Pierfy added nine apiece, and Lott chipped in eight points, three assists and three steals. Pierfy pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds, Davis added nine, and Slone contributed six boards, two blocks and a pair of steals.

Morris led all scorers with 16 for Susquehanna. All 16 of his points came in the second half, including 4 of 6 shooting from long range. Butler added 15 points and three steals. Zach Knecht had a team-high seven rebounds.
