Dunn and Makowski Fuel 58-52 Comeback Win Over Stevenson

GLENSIDE, Pa. – The Arcadia women's basketball team overcame a 16-point deficit to defeat Stevenson, 58-52 on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Gymnasium.
 
The Knights improve to 5-5 on the season and 3-1 in conference play with the win. The Mustangs fall to 3-7 and 0-4 in MACC play.
 
Taylor Dunn and Julia Makowski led the Knights with 19 points each. Dunn and Makowski scored 17 and 15 points in the second half respectively. Dunn added 10 boards for her third double-double of the season, and Makowski grabbed six rebounds. Taylor Fritz grabbed 10 rebounds and scored seven points in her first action of the season. Courtney Hoffman also chipped in seven points in the win for the Knights.
 
Down 49-48 with 2:23 left, Arcadia evened the score after Dunn converted a free throw with 1:44 on the clock, to tie the game at 49-49. After forcing Stevenson turnovers on back-to-back possessions, Dunn converted the go-ahead three with 52 seconds left, giving the Knights a 52-49 lead. Fritz then converted a layup with 19 seconds left, giving the Knights a five-point lead (54-49). Arcadia was able to hold off the Mustangs in the final moments, to secure the victory.
 
Trailing by three (9-6) entering the second quarter, Stevenson stretched its lead to 13 with 4:14 left on the clock, capping a 7-0 run for the Mustangs. The Knights closed the gap heading into the break. Trailing by 16 (26-10) Arcadia ended the period on a 6-0 run, that was capped by Makowski layup, to cut the Knights' deficit to just 10, making the score 26-16 at the midway point of the contest.
 
Arcadia continued to close the gap in the third quarter. Trailing by nine (31-22) with 7:18 left in the period, Arcadia went on a 7-4 run, which included two three pointers from Makowski, making the score 35-29 with 3:40 left in the quarter. After cutting the Mustang's lead to as little as five points (37-22) with 1:00 on the clock, Stevenson extended its leads to eight (42-34) heading to the final quarter of play.
 
The Knights opened the fourth quarter with a three from Dunn, to cut the deficit to five (42-37) with 9:15 remaining.
 
After the Mustangs hit a three to lead by 10 (47-37) with 8:14 left. The Knights responded with a 9-1 run to trail by just two (48-46) with 4:07 left in regulation. The run began with a three from Hoffman and was capped by two free throws from Makowski.
 
The Knights out rebounded Stevenson 53-45 in the contest, and 20-11 on the offensive glass. Arcadia was also 13-19 (68.4 percent) from the charity stripe in the victory. The Knights shot 35 percent (7 for 20) from three point range, and also held the Mustangs to 3 of 12 (25 percent) from beyond the arc in the win.
 
Arcadia is back in action on Thursday when the Knights take on Coe College at 12 p.m. from Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.
