Softball Splits Conference Doubleheader Against Stevenson

GLENSIDE, Pa. – Arcadia softball split a conference doubleheader Friday evening against Stevenson. The Mustangs took game one, 5-1, while the Knights ended the second game 9-1 in five innings.
 
FOR THE RECORD:
  • Arcadia sits at 10-12 on the year with a 6-4 MAC Commonwealth mark.
  • Stevenson is now 11-11 overall and 3-5 in the conference.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The visitors held a 5-0 lead before the Knights platted a run in the bottom of the fifth. Senior Nicole Iasiello hit a one-out triple to center before sophomore Ashley Eckett knocked Iasiello in with an RBI single.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • Six different Knights registered a hit, with Iasiello and junior Jackie Bilotti each nailing triples.
INSIDE THE CIRCLE:
  • Sophomore Kylee Schwind (5-3) pitched a complete game with one strikeout and three earned runs.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Scarlet and Grey controlled the tempo of the game, plating two runs in the first, one in the second and six in the fourth, all before the Mustangs scored.
  • In the first, freshman Alex DeStefano led off the inning with a bunt single, moving to second on a throwing error by the pitcher. The next batter, junior Kristin Cancelliere, singled to left, moving DeStefano to third. Bilotti was due up next, as she singled up the middle, plating DeStefano and moving Cancelliere to third. Freshman Alexis Burge followed with a sacrifice bunt to score Cancelliere.
  • Iasiello scored the lone run in the bottom of the second, after singling through the left side. Eckett picked up the RBI single.
  • After reaching on an error in the fourth, freshman Alexa Vardiman came around to score the first run of the inning when DeStefano reached on a bunt single. Two batters later, Bilotti walked, plating sophomore Mary Pat Murray. Eckett would come around to score on a wild pitch, before sophomore Hunter Schantz lined a two-run double to left, scoring Bilotti and DeStefano. Iasiello was due up next, as she singled up the middle, scoring Burge.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • Iasiello went 3-for-3 in the game, scoring a run and driving in another.
  • DeStefano was also perfect, picking up two hits with two runs scored and an RBI.
  • Schantz finished 1-for-3, picking up a pair of RBIs.
INSIDE THE CIRCLE:
  • Murray (5-6) tossed five innings, allowing only one earned run.
UP NEXT:
  • Arcadia hits the road tomorrow for more conference play as it travels to Lycoming. The first game is slated for 1 p.m.
