Baily’s Career High 16 Kills Leads Men’s Volleyball Past Widener, 3-1

CHESTER, Pa. – Freshman Quinn Baily had a career night, notching 16 kills as the Arcadia men's volleyball team powered past Widener Monday night, 3-1 (25-15, 25-5, 23-25, 25-14). With the win, the Knights have cemented themselves as the number two or three seed in the MAC Championship.
 
FOR THE RECORD:
  • Arcadia moves to 15-10 on the season, with an 8-2 MAC record.
  • Widener dips to 3-14 overall, with a conference mark at 0-9.
COACH SAYS:
  • "Our guys play tough tonight and we were able to get everybody in the match," said head men's volleyball coach Eli Porr. "In the third set Widener played great. Nice job to all of our guys who came in off the bench. I'm very proud of our team and how we are progressing throughout the season. We still have one more gear that we need to click into before playoffs." 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Scarlet and Grey powered out to a 9-2 run to start the first set before the Pride called a timeout. The rest of the set was close, however the Knights pulled away having a 15-13 advantage to end the set 25-15.
  • In the second, Arcadia raced out to an 8-0 lead before Widener found the scoreboard. The Knights continued the offensive efforts, finishing the set on a 17-4 run.
  • Widener battled in the third set, avoiding the sweep with a 25-23 win.
  • Arcadia started the final set on a 15-6 run, before finishing the set on top, 25-14.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • Baily's 16 kills came with a .300 hit percentage.
  • Joining Baily in double digit kills was sophomore Austin Braas with 11. Braas also added four block assists and one solo block, while hitting an impressive .688.
  • Reigning MAC Player of the Week, freshman Anthony Devantier recorded 41 assists, while contributing three kills and a career high five aces.
  • On the defensive end, sophomore Zayne George registered 13 digs.
UP NEXT:
  • Arcadia will host the MAC Championship No. 4 seed Alvernia on Wednesday to finish the season series. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
