Walk-off Homer by Hohenstein Leads Baseball Past Misericordia, 8-6

AMBLER, Pa. – Junior Luke Hohenstein took a 1-1 pitch with two outs in the bottom of the ninth and ripped in over the left field fence to lead the Arcadia baseball team to an 8-6 win over Misericordia Monday.
 
FOR THE RECORD:
  • Arcadia moves to 26-12 overall.
  • Misericordia drops to 27-11. 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • After the Cougars took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first, the Knights responded in the bottom half, tying the game. Junior Sean Carew stole third, then scored on a throwing error by the catcher. Junior Phil Pierfy was up next, driving a double to left field to plate Hohenstein.
  • Misericordia climbed back on top 5-2 by the third, however the Scarlet and Grey scored three unanswered to tie it back up. Carew singled in the third, allowing junior Bryan Gillen to score. Senior Nick Cardace was next, registering the sacrifice fly as Hohenstein scored. In the fifth, Pierfy singled to right, earning the RBI as Hohenstein touched home.
  • Misericordia took a 6-5 lead in the sixth, before Hohenstein finished the game for Arcadia. On the home run, freshman Matt Ernst and senior Drew Coisson came around the bases. 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • Hohenstein finished 3-for-4 with the home run, three RBIs, and four runs scored.
  • Pierfy went 3-for-4 on the day, with a double and two RBIs.
  • Carew and Cardace each added an RBI apiece.
  • Gillen ended the afternoon 2-for-5 with two runs scored. 
ON THE MOUND:
  • Pierfy got the nod, pitching 1.1 innings, giving up three hits for four runs, including three earned.
  • Sophomore Andrew Scholz came on in relief, going 4.2 innings. He gave up three hits and two unearned runs, while striking out one.
  • Sophomore Mitch Blake was next for one inning of work, allowing one hit and striking out one.
  • Senior Connor Laigaie (1-1) finished the final two innings, striking out two batters, and picking up the win. 
UP NEXT:
  • Arcadia returns to action for the MAC Commonwealth Championships when the Knights defend their title against No. 3 Hood on Thursday. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. from PEOPLESBank Park in York, Pa.
