GLENSIDE, Pa. – A capacity crowd of golfers participated in the Fifth Annual Arcadia Athletics Golf Outing on a perfect summer afternoon at Old York Road Country Club on Monday, June 25. This marked the second-straight sellout of the event, which raises funds to benefit the department and its nearly 400 student-athletes.
A total of 130 golfers signed up to help support the Knights' successful and growing department, which sponsors 19 varsity programs. There were 71 golfers at the inaugural golf outing in 2014, 87 golfers in 2015, 115 in 2016, and 124 in 2017.
"We are very proud of how successful our outing has become over the course of the last five years," said Director of Athletics
Brian Granata. "The funds raised from this event help in so many ways and are a big reason why we continue to improve our athletic and recreation facilities to benefit students, faculty, and staff. We look forward to an even more successful outing in 2019."
The 2018 outing featured lunch, 18 holes at the private, member-only Old York Road Country Club, a cocktail hour, dinner, and awards presentation. The golf portion of the day had 15 different contests that tested the various skills of the participating golfers, while the dinner portion of the day included remarks from Granata and Golf Outing Manager Mike Hebenstreit.
The team of Hebenstreit, Peter Lusk, Jim Merce and Head Men's and Women's Golf Coach
Chris Merce won the scramble-format tournament with a 62, good enough for nine under par. Despite two other teams finishing with a 62, the first-place team won on match of cards.
Marc McKenna, Joe McCreavy, Terry Gross, and Ken Kind took second place, while John Franklin, Matt Harrar, Tom Sweitzer, and Steve Campo placed third.
