Facility Upgrades Complete; Others to be Completed During Academic Year

GLENSIDE, Pa. – After a long summer of hard work, Arcadia Athletics has finished an abundance of projects slated for the summer of 2018, with others to be completed during the 2018-19 academic year.

After doing upgrades to four varsity locker rooms last summer, the department upgraded two locker rooms used by the campus community this year. The locker rooms received new lockers and flooring, while the plumbing, showers, and bathroom stalls were updated this past academic year.

The Kuch Center saw upgrades in the athletic training center, strength and training center, and aerobics room. New lighting, which was hoped to be completed during the summer, will be finished during winter break.

Alumni Gymnasium is scheduled to receive new lighting fixtures to enhance the overall atmosphere and brightness in the gym. Earlier in the summer, the floor in Alumni Gymnasium received its annual refinishing. At the same time, the aerobics room was refinished and new fitness mats were upgraded. The department will also replace the rims on all six baskets in Alumni Gym during the academic year.

Part of this project included expanding the athletic training center in order to provide a better space for student-athletes for gameday preparation and injury rehabilitation. The room nearly doubled in size. The renovation was a top-to-bottom overhaul that included new fixtures, modalities and significant equipment upgrades, as well as specialized turf and rubberized flooring in the rear of the room.

The strength and training center received a total makeover, including new paint, branding decals, and specialized equipment. The facility has been painted and new equipment was installed. The strength and conditioning room upgrades were fully-funded by departmental funds.

At Jean Lenox West Field, a two-story press box was built to enhance game-day operations and the department's live streams for field hockey, men's and women's soccer, and men's and women's lacrosse. The press box includes storage underneath the building for the department. The first floor of the building will house all game-day operations, with the second floor serving as a streaming studio for the Arcadia Knights Sports Network. This project was also fully-funded through departmental funds.

Blankley Field saw upgrades with added seating behind home plate and a small, portable press box to be utilized for gameday operations and live streaming. As part of the project, the department is adding power and Internet to the press box to enhance the live streaming efforts in an effort to provide a more conducive viewing angle for softball webcasts.

Skip Wilson Field at Temple Ambler saw multiple upgrades for the back-to-back MAC Commonwealth Champion Arcadia baseball team. The infield received new dirt and sod, while a new warning track was added around the entire field. The mound and home plate areas were rebuilt to complete a total overhaul of the infield. New storage was added and the batting cage enhancements were also completed.

New benches were placed at the Weiss Tennis Courts for participants and additional spectator bleachers.

Most recently, new landscaping was installed at the main entrance of the Kuch Center. Trees were cut down and new sod was placed down.
