Knights Nip Bulldogs in OT

GLENSIDE, Pa. -- Lindsay Bechtold scored with 42.4 seconds in overtime as the Arcadia field hockey team knocked off DeSales 1-0 on Saturday afternoon at Jean Lenox West Field and Delran Pavillion.

With under a minute to play in the extra period, the Knights (3-1) were awarded their 18th penalty corner of the game. Following in the insertion by Adera Ahern, Lauren Dougherty's shot was blocked in front of the Bulldog net. Kayla Brennan got to the rebound and slipped a pass to Bechtold, who lifted a shot past Katarina Polyviou for the game winner.

The Bulldogs had a chance to win the game in regulation, getting two penalty corners with no time remaining, but a pair of saves by AU's Catherine Bergmueller kept DU off the scoreboard.

IN GOAL: Bergmueller, making her second start of the season, notched the second shutout of her career. She has yet to allow a goal in 207:41 this season. Polyviou made three saves for the Bulldogs, and Erin Chioffe had a key defensive save in the first half.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: Arcadia outshot the Bulldogs 14-13 and held an 18-13 advantage in penalty corners … Dougherty led the Knights with five shots on the day … Chioffe led all players with six shots, three of them on goal … Bergmueller's seven saves were more than she was forced to make in her first two appearances combined.
