GLENSIDE, Pa. – Taylor Dunn scored a game-high 19 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for a double-double, as the Arcadia women's basketball team defeated Lycoming 74-68 in overtime on Monday evening in Alumni Gymnasium.
Arcadia improves to 7-11 overall on the season and 4-5 in MAC Commonwealth play. Lycoming falls to 13-5 and 7-2 in the MAC Commonwealth.
Four players scored in double figures for Arcadia. Along with Dunn,
Camille Menns scored 15 points and pulled down 10 boards for a double-double.
Julia Makowski added 13 points and seven rebounds, and
Sydney Cyr scored 12 points, grabbed eight rebounds, handed out six assist and blocked two shots.
Asya Alba also scored eight points.
Trailing by four (53-49) with 6:48 remaining in regulation, the Knights went on a 9-0 run, which began with two free throws from Makowski, and was capped by a pair of free throws from Menns, which gave AU a five-point lead (58-53) with 4:16 on the clock.
Arcadia stretched its lead to six with 2:26 left after
Taylor Dunn hit a jumper to make the score 62-56. However, Lycoming answered, closing out the fourth quarter with six unanswered points, including two free throws from Akilah McFadden with 44 seconds left to tie the game and force overtime. The Knights missed a potential go-ahead bucket in the last 25 seconds, and Lycoming came up empty on two shot attempts in the final five seconds on what would have likely sealed the game.
Trailing 66-62 with 3:42 remaining in overtime after Lycoming scored the first four points of the extra period, Arcadia scored 12 unanswered points, with 10 of the 12 points coming from at charity stripe, to take a 78-66 lead, and the victory.
Arcadia shot 84.6 percent, converting a season-high 27 of 33 attempts from the free throw line in the contest, while the Warriors shot just 60.9 percent (14-23). The Knights outrebounded Lycoming 52-40. Arcadia also blocked a season-high five shots in the victory.
Kayla Kline led the Warriors with 18 points and 14 rebounds for a double-double, and McFadden scored 17 for Lycoming.
Arcadia is back in action on Saturday when the Knights travel to Stevenson for a 1 p.m. tip.
