GLENSIDE, Pa. - Taylor Dunn scored 17 points, as the Arcadia women's basketball team defeated Albright 49-47 on Wednesday night in Alumni Gymnasium. The win marks the Knights' first win over the Lions since Jan. 29, 2014.
Arcadia improves to 8-12 overall on the season with a 5-6 mark in conference play. Albright falls to 10-11 and is now 5-7 in the MAC Commonwealth.
Dunn totaled four rebounds and two steals to go along with her 17 points.
Camille Menns also scored in double figures with 10 points and pulled down four rebounds.
Julia Makowski scored six points, grabbed four boards and had four steals, and
Sydney Cyr chipped in five points and six rebounds in the win.
Leading by three (38-35) in the fourth quarter, Cyr hit two free throws with 6:41 remaining to put Arcadia up five (40-35). The Knights lead was trimmed to one after layups by Brady Wassel and Gabby Boggs on back-to-back Lions possessions, making the score 40-39 with 4:38 to play in the contest.
The Knights answered, scoring seven of the next nine points in the game over a 2:14 stretch. Dunn hit two jumpers on consecutive Arcadia possessions during the run, which was capped by a Menns layup, giving AU a six-point cushion (47-41) with 2:27 to play.
Albright tied the score at 47-47 with 26 seconds to play after scoring six unanswered points. However, Dunn hit two clutch free throws with 20 seconds left giving the Knights a 49-47 lead. The Lions had a chance to win it in the final seconds. Abby Gaffney was unable to convert a three-point attempt and Arcadia was able to hold off the Lions, taking the two-point victory.
The Knights shot 15 of 48 (.313) from the field in the win. Arcadia also had a large advantage at the free throw line. The Knights visited the charity stripe 24 times in the contest, converting 19 shots for a 79.2 free throw percentage in the win. The Lions only visited the free throw line 10 times in the game.
Boggs and Dejah Terrel led the Lions with 12 points and five rebounds each in the contest.
Arcadia is back in action on Saturday against Messiah at 1 p.m.
