NEWARK, N.J. - The Arcadia University women's basketball team picked up its first win of the 2019 season Saturday afternoon in the Knights' second and final game of the Rutgers-Newark Tournament with a 69-64 victory over FDU-Florham.
Taylor Dunn paced the Knight offense with a season-high 24 points - marking her second-straight game with 20 or more and her third-straight game in double-figures to open the season - while
Sydney Cyr narrowly missed a double-double with 14 points and nine rebounds.
Dunn was named to the All-Tournament team at the conclusion of Saturday's games and was the lone Arcadia representative.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-The Knights struggled to get in a rhythm offensively to begin the afternoon, as Arcadia only had two field goals and trailed, 10-4, at the end of the first quarter.
-
Holly Daveski, Dunn, and
Julia Makowski all converted on field goals in the first two minutes of the second quarter to cut the deficit to one, before a Cyr layup with 31 seconds left in the half gave the Knights their first lead of the day, 19-18. FDU converted on a three before time expired to take a two-point lead into the break.
-Arcadia continued to trail late into the third quarter, but conversions in the lane from Daveski and
Taylor Fritz gave the Knights their first lead of the second half at 38-33, which sparked a big run at the end of the quarter to vault Arcadia to a seven-point lead heading into the final ten minutes.
-The Knights led by as much as 16 in the fourth, thanks to a 14-5 run to begin the quarter. FDU battled all the way back to cut the Arcadia lead to three with 24 seconds left in regulation, but four
Sidney Barrer free throws and a pair from Dunn down the stretch sealed the five-point victory.
