Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Arcadia's Season Ends with Heartbreaking OT Loss in NCAA Tournament Opener

PITTSBURGH, Pa – The Arcadia University women's soccer team had their season come to an end, falling to Swarthmore College, 1-0, on an overtime penalty kick in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament.

The Knights kept possession for the majority of the overtime and had several runs at the goal, but surrendered the game-winning goal on a penalty kick in the 97th minute. Arcadia ends their season with a 15-4-3 overall record.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Knights weathered the storm early after battling through several early runs from the Garnet. In the 6th minute, Swarthmore played a shot into traffic, but chipped the ball wide of the net. Moments later, Brianna Williams charged an attacker to break up a potential scoring opportunity.

- Arcadia's defense made key stops to keep the game scoreless in the opening half. In the 8th minute, Kayla Murphy made a heads-up play to keep the ball out of the net after a Garnet attacker fired a shot into open space.

- Mackenzie Hoffman had a good run at the net in the 25th minute, but couldn't get enough on her chip attempt. Erin Vander Plaat and Megan Mannato helped set up the play with excellent ball movement in the attacking zone.

- In the 47th minute, Mannato nearly found the back of the net following a corner attempt from Riley Ratcliffe. The junior's attempt was headed towards the net, but cleared away by a Garnet defender.

- Hoffman nearly connected on the game-winner after she beat the keeper on a fastbreak. However, Hoffman's score was waived off by the official due to an offside call.

- Maddy Carens provided the game's lone goal on a penalty kick in the 97th minute after she was taken down in the box.
