STEVENSON, Md. – The Arcadia University women's volleyball team fell to Stevenson University, 3-1, in the MAC Commonwealth Championship on Saturday night. This marks the third consecutive year that the Knights have appeared in the conference championship game.
The Knights dug themselves an early 2-0 hole for the second straight contest after dropping the opening two sets to Stevenson. Arcadia was able to storm back with a third set victory, but couldn't get past the fourth set.
Shannon Ryan and
Lauren Enfield led the Knights attack with nine kills, respectively, while
Julia Paliwodzinski ended her stellar season with a team-best 30 assists and 16 digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Stevenson jumped out early in the first set to gain early momentum. Paliwodzinski helped capture some momentum with a phenomenal diving effort to keep a rally alive, which eventually led to an Arcadia point. However, Stevenson was able to close out the set with a 25-19 win.
- Stevenson controlled the second set with a commanding 25-16 victory. The Knights fell into an early hole and couldn't put together a consistent run to climb back into contention.
- The Knights came out with a ton of energy in a must-win third set. With their backs against the wall, the Knights rose to the occasion and maintained a lead for the majority of the set. The Mustangs threatened with a late run, but Arcadia was able to close things out with a 25-23 victory.
- Stevenson pulled ahead of the Knights with a 6-0 run midway through the fourth set. The Knights were able to stay in contention, but came up just short as they dropped the final set 25-21.
