Knights Race Past Marywood 17-9

SCRANTON, Pa. -- The Arcadia men's lacrosse team defeated Marywood 17-9 on Sunday afternoon, opening the season 2-0 for the first time in program history.
 
A day after Clo Muscara set an AU single-game record with nine points, Brady Manion scored six goals and added three assists to tie the record. Muscara added eight points on four goals and four assists for eight points, and Tanner Pajakinas scored one goal and handed out five assists.
 
The Knights outshot the Pacers 57-48 and a 21-6 advantage in faceoffs won with a 42-29 edge in ground balls. Arcadia was also 6 for 8 with a man advantage, including 4 for 5 in the second quarter.
 
Josh Keitz opened the scoring just 29 seconds into the contest, giving the Knights an early 1-0 lead. Pajakinas scored off a feed from JP Shaaber for a 2-0 lead four minutes later, and Keitz made it 3-0 off a feed from Manion 19 seconds later. The Pacers got on the board at the 8:00 mark to make it 3-1, before Muscara scored with 33 seconds left in the quarter for a 4-1 lead.
 
Pajakinas set up the first three goals of the second quarter, all man-up scores, as the Knights lead swelled to 7-1 by the 8:36 mark. CJ Sherlock scored the first goal of the second quarter, and Manion added the final two.
 
Marywood scored four of the next six goals to pull within 9-5, but Wesley Sporer scored off a Pajakinas feed with four seconds left in the half for a 10-5 lead at the break, and four straight goals to open the third, including three from Muscara, gave AU a 14-5 lead.
 
Grant Palmer started in goal and played the first 55:40 and made 20 saves with eight goals allowed. Timmy Fyock played the final 4:20, allowing one goal and making one save. Connor Reed made 15 saves for the Pacers in taking the loss.
 
Philip Hane was dominant at the faceoff X, winning 20 of 25 faceoffs, picking up six ground balls and adding one assist. Keitz led the team with nine ground balls, and Muscara added five. Keitz, Muscara and Nick Crawford each had two caused turnovers.
 
Ben Mustakos led the Pacers with four goals, and Matt Mitarotonda scored twice.
 
The Knights are back in action on Saturday at Catholic beginning at 1 p.m.
