Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

MVB Fights for 3-0 Victory

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – A balanced offensive attack led the No. 14 Arcadia men's volleyball to a 3-0 clean sweep of Wilkes University Wednesday night. The victory, their fifth in a row, improves the Knights' record to 23-5 overall. With the loss, Wilkes drops to 9-14 on the season.

After a back and forth first set which saw the Knight trail 9-8, AU rattled off seven straight points to take a 15-9 lead, forcing a Wilkes timeout. The outburst was aided by two kills each from Quinn Baily and Jason Manley. The Colonels cut the score to 19-12, but the Knights used a 6-1 rally to end the set, 25-13.

The second set was a battle as neither side led by more than four points. Wilkes used a late 5-0 rally to take a 22-19 advantage, forcing an Arcadia timeout. Out of the break, back-to-back service aces by Collin Nissely, and kills from Austin Braas and Manley pushed the Knights to set point. The winning point came on an attack error, giving AU the hard fought 25-22 win, and 2-0 sets led.

AU had to come from behind again as it trailed for half the set. The Knights stayed within an ear shot of Wilkes before tying the score at 16-16, sparking a 5-0 rally. With a 20-16 advantage, the Colonels took a timeout to re-group. The rest didn't slow the Knights down as Dan Paraskevov killed three of AU's final five points leading to a 25-19 victory and match win.

The Scarlet & Grey's offense racked up a .367 hitting percentage with 48 kills on 98 attacks. 10 different Knights recorded a kill led by nine apiece from Baily and Paraskevov. Manley, Evan Misal and Braas each chipped in seven, five and five kills, respectively. Anthony Devantier (30 assists) and Alvyn Abraham (13 assists) helped set-up AU's hitters.

As for the Colonels, they hit at a .231 clip to go along with 28 kills on 78 attacks. Jones Mensah tallied 11 kills to lead the way. Andrew Potter and Ethan Speicher produced six kills each.

Arcadia hits the road this weekend as they travel to New York City to face NYU and St. Joseph's College-Long Island on March 30. The matches are slated for 1 & 3 p.m.
