AMBLER, Pa. -- A fast start for the Arcadia baseball team led to an 8-1 win over Montclair State on Tuesday afternoon at Skip Wilson Field.

The Knights (18-12) scored five runs over the first two innings and five AU pitchers combined to limit Red Hawks to one run on seven hits, including six singles. Arcadia pounded out 15 hits.
Nick Ponente was 3 for 5 with a pair of RBIs and the Knights got two-hit days from
Bryan Gillen,
Zak Thomas,
Sean Carew,
Phil Pierfy and
Tyler Wisnewski.

In the first,
Sean Carew's sacrifice fly to left scored Gillen and opened the scoring. Later in the inning, Ponente laid down a bunt that resulted in two runs coming across as the Knights took a 3-0 lead.

Thomas added to the lead in the second, singling home
Matt Ernst to make it 4-0. A groundout by Pierfy allowed Gillen to score as the lead reached 5-0.
Sean Carew made it 6-0 in the fourth with an RBI single to left allowing Thomas to score.

The Red Hawks lone run came in the fifth on a solo home run by Daniel Clemente to make it 6-1, but AU tacked on a pair of insurance runs in the eight on an RBI single by Pierfy and a fielder's choice by
Zachary Sekelick.

Carson Denham (2-2) picked up the win, allowing one run on four hits and two walks with a pair of strikeouts in 4.0 innings.
Luke Fournier,
Owen Margolis,
Nick Fossile and
Mitch Blake combined to limits MSU to three hits with three strikeouts over the final 5.0 innings.

Ponente, Pierfy and Carew all drove in two runs for the Knights, and Gillen, Thomas and Pierfy each scored twice.

Arcadia is at Susquehanna on Wednesday beginning at 4 p.m.
