Softball Splits With Stevens to End Regular Season

WEEHAWKEN, N.J. – The Arcadia softball team ends the regular season with a doubleheader split versus Stevens Tuesday afternoon. Arcadia finishes with a 28-12 overall record and 13-3 mark in conference play.

A fourth inning solo home run from Stevens' Siobhan Cottell was the difference as the Knights fell, 3-2.
 
Katie Tirabassi kicked the scoring off for the Ducks in the bottom of the first as she reached on an error, allowing Gina DeOliveira to come in. Next up was Melissa Alfonso who shot a single to center, bringing around Tirabassi for the early 2-0 lead.
 
In the fourth, Bekah Good tied the ballgame with a two-run bomb to right center.
 
With one out and a 1-2 count in the fourth, Cottell launched her solo home run to secure the 3-2 victory.
 
AU's offense was charged by three hits from Alex DeStefano. Kristin Cancelliere chipped in two hits from the lead-off spot as Good and Morgan Marchesani each tallied a base knock apiece.
 
The Ducks got two hits from Samantha Schattin as well as five more hits from five different hitters.
 
In the circle, Kylee Schwind (11-7) went 4.0 innings as she surrendered three runs (1 ER) on six hits and one walk. Brenna Dolan finished the last 2.0 innings, allowing one hit with two strikeouts.
 
For Stevens, Jessie Masur (3-2) lasted 4.1 innings, allowing two runs (1 ER) on eight hits with one strikeout. Marissa Cappello earned the save with her 2.2 innings of work in which didn't allow a hit, but walked two with three strikeouts.

The Knights showed signs of life in game two, mustering up four runs on five hits to come away with the 4-1 split.
 
Julia Gessner sparked the scoring with a sacrifice fly in the second inning to bring in Hunter Schantz to take a 1-0 advantage.
 
In the third, AU added two more runs on a Jackie Bilotti RBI single and a run on passed ball allowing DeStefano to dart home for the 3-0 lead.
 
Marchesani tacked on an insurance run in the fourth on an infield single that plated Ashton Evans for the Knight's fourth run.
 
The Ducks squeaked across a run in the home half of the same inning, but it wasn't enough as Arcadia took game two, 4-1.
 
Tori Zangrill supplied two of the Knights' five hits in the ballgame. Bilotti, Marchesani and Schantz each kicked in a hit apiece.
 
Stevens got four hits of its five hits from DeOliveira and Tirbassi, with Cottell recording a base knock as well.
 
Dolan (2-1) started game two for the Scarlet & Grey, putting in 4.0 innings as she let in one run on two hits and two walks with one strikeout. Mary Pat Murray came in for the 2.0 inning save and scattered three hits and struck out one.
 
As for the home team, Christine LaRochelle (6-11) battled through 4.0 frames as she allowed four runs (2 ER) on five hits with three strikeouts. Marissa Cappello worked the final 3.0 innings and didn't allow a baserunner while fanning five batters.
 
Arcadia now moves forward to the MAC Commonwealth Championship which begins on Friday. The Knights are the No. 1 seed overall and have received a bye in the first round. The Scarlet & Grey will face the winner of No. 5 Lebanon Valley and No. 4 Widener.
