Baseball Settles For Split With Stevenson

AMBLER, Pa. – The Arcadia baseball settled for a split with visiting Stevenson Saturday afternoon at Skip Wilson Field. The Knights took the first game, 10-6 before dropping game two, 5-1. AU's record sits at 16-8 overall and 9-2 in the MAC-Commonwelth. The Mustangs hold a 13-12 mark and are 6-5 in the conference.

Arcadia 10, Stevenson 6
Jeremy Sabathne went 6.0 innings, and Phil Pierfy tallied two hits and four RBI, to lead the Knights to the game one victory.

Pierfy sparked the scoring right out of the shoot as he roped a two-run double to right field to get the Knights in front, 2-0.

The Knights kept their foot on the pedal as they pushed across six more runs in the second on three hits and three errors. In the frame, Pierfy once again did damage with a two-run double, this time to left field, to extend AU's advantage to 8-0.

The Scarlet & Grey manufactured runs in the fourth and fifth on a solo home run from Dylan Towey and a double steal with Zachary Sekelick swiping home for the Knight's 10th run.

Stevenson didn't go away quietly as it scored three runs each in the sixth and seventh innings, cutting the deficit to 10-6, but didn't get any closer.

Pierfy was assisted by Towey, who recorded two hits and two RBI, to go along with one walk and three runs scored. Sean Carew and Matt Ernst tallied two runs apiece as well.

As for the Mustangs, Alex Kidwiler led the charge with three hits and two runs scored. Kevin Murray also chipped in two hits.

Sabathne surrendered three runs on seven hits while striking out five, before handing the ball over to Nick Fossile for the final frame. Fossile allowed three runs (1 ER) on two hits and one hit by pitch in his 1.0 inning of work.

James Wiercinski was saddled with the defeat for Stevenson as he lasted 2.0 innings, giving up eight runs (5 ER) on five hits and three walks. Ryan Smith and Mike Elis worked the final 4.0 innings as the tandem gave up two runs on two hits.

Stevenson 5, Arcadia 1
In game two, two late sacrifice flies and a fielding error did the Knights in as they fell, 5-1.

Stevenson jumped on the board in the third inning as Kidwilder reached on a bases loaded fielder's choice permitting Nate Perkins to score from third.

The Mustangs tallied another run in the fourth as Jonathan Lugo singled in Thomas Holcomb to lead 2-0.

Arcadia pushed across its lone run in the home half of the fourth as Thomas reached on his own fielder's choice, and Pierfy darted home.

The visitors tacked on two runs in the fifth on two sacrifice flies, and added one more in the seventh on a fielding error by the Knights, to assure the 5-1 triumph.

Piery again recorded two base hits to pace AU's offense.

Holcomb led the charge with three hits, as Matt Kerber and Kevin Murray tallied two hits each from the 1-2 spots in the Mustangs line-up.

Tyler Showers was pinned with the loss as he went 4.1 innings, yielding four runs on seven hits and three walks. Owen Margolis entered for the final 2.2 innings, giving up one run on three hits.

Tyler Graham earned the victory on the bump for his 4.0 innings of work, allowing one run on three hits. Sam Downs picked up the save for his 3.0 innings out of the bullpen as he scattered three hits and struck out two.

Arcadia heads back on the road as it travels to Keystone for a mid-week affair on Wednesday. First pitch is slated for 3:30 p.m.
