HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Arcadia University women's soccer team defeated Montclair State University, 4-1, to capture the Haverford Kickoff Classic for the third time in program history, Sunday afternoon.
Megan Mannato provided a huge spark off the bench with two goals on two shots.
Bridget Sway netted the team's opening goal, while
Emily Readinger connected on her second goal of the season.
Riley Nyhus and
Amanda McHugh were both credited with assists.
The Red Hawks struck first with a goal from Emily Beenders in the 6th minute. However, the Knights would respond with two goals before halftime. Sway tallied the team's first score on a penalty kick in the 33rd minute. Mannato then scored on a shot from six-yards out to provide the Knights with a go-ahead goal in the 42nd minute.
The Knights carried momentum into the second half with a quick strike from Readinger. The junior scored from five-yards out following a cross from Nyhus in the 53rd minute. Mannato later added an insurance goal in the 79th minute with an assist from McHugh.
Arcadia controlled the pace of play, outshooting the Red Hawks 16-6.
Brianna Williams earned her second victory of the season with three saves.
The Knights improved to 2-0 on the season, while Montclair fell to 0-1-1. The women visit Ursinus College, Wednesday at 7:30 PM.
