No. 10 Men's Volleyball Holds Off Lancaster Bible in Tightly-Contested Regional Battle

LANCASTER, Pa. - The tenth-ranked Arcadia University men's volleyball team outlasted previously unbeaten Lancaster Bible on the road Tuesday night, 3-1, in a tightly-contested matchup in which all four sets were decided by three points or less. The Chargers (5-1) - who received votes in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) poll - had only dropped four total sets in their first five matches entering Tuesday night's contest.

Austin Braas led the Knights with a team-high 17 kills and added five blocks, while Jarod Pichler posted 13 kills and Anothony Devantier recorded a match-high 53 assists.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Tied five-all in the opening set, the Knights embarked on a 4-0 run fueled by a pair of Jason Manley service aces to take the lead that they would hold through the end of the first. The Chargers battled back to get wthin two points in the latter stages of the set with the score 22-20 in Arcadia's favor, but the Knights - powered by a pair of Pichler kills, including the set-clincher - took three of the final five points for the 25-22 win.

-Despite taking a 19-17 lead late in the second set, the Knights were unable to close out the Chargers, allowing the hosts to tie the set at 23-all before taking advantage of a pair of Arcadia errors to take the 25-23 victory.

-Neither side was able to take a commanding lead in the third set with the match tied at one set apiece, as the Knights and Chargers arrived at a 20-20 tie. Following a Braas kill, Lancaster Bible took four-straight points to bring on set-point for the hosts and, following an Arcadia timeout, the Knights won five-straight points as Braas and Manley provided two kills each to go along with a Pichler ace to take the set 26-24 and the advantage in the match, 2-1.

-The fourth set proved to be a carbon copy of the third as the Knights held a 19-17 lead before the two sides alternated the next 11 points, resulting in 24-23 Arcadia advantage. With the match on the line, the Chargers tied the set at 24-all on an Arcadia error but a Manley kill and a Lancaster Bible attack error clinched the match for the Knights with a 26-24 set win.
