GLENSIDE, Pa. - The Arcadia University men's volleyball team edged out Alvernia University, 3-2, in a pivotal conference victory on Wednesday night.
Quinn Baily led the Knights with season-highs in kills (18) and digs (17), while
Dan Paraskevov and
Austin Braas had 16 and 12 kills, respectively. A senior, Braas had a game-high .474 hitting percentage to go along with a team-best four blocks.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Alvernia opened the first set on a 7-1 run to put the Knights on their heels. The Knights answered back midway through the set with a 5-1 run to pull within two points. With their backs against the wall, Arcadia rallied for five-straight points to take their first lead, 25-24. Braas opened the rally with consecutive kills, while
Jason Manley put the Knights ahead with a service ace. However, the Golden Wolves answered with the next three points to end the set.
- Arcadia put together a 7-1 run to pull ahead of the Golden Wolves, 18-11, in the second set. Alvernia then answered with five-straight points to put pressure on the Knights. However, the Knights put together another 7-1 rally to end the set, 25-17. Paraskevov had two kills during the stretch, while Baily and Manley each tallied one kill.
- The Knights took the third set to take a 2-1 advantage over Alvernia. After the Golden Wolves opened with an 11-7 lead, the Knights fought back into the game with a 7-2 run to regain the lead. Arcadia ended the stanza strong with a 10-2 run to put the Wolves on the brink of defeat.
Dylan Zimmerman ended the set with a service ace, while Baily had three kills during the Knights 10-2 push.
- The Golden Wolves forced the match to a fifth set after a late surge to capture the forth stanza. Both squads were evenly matched the entire way, before Alvernia rallied off five unanswered points to end the set.
- After the Knights pulled ahead to a 6-3 lead in the final set, Alvernia rallied for six unanswered points to take a 9-6 lead. The Knights then responded with a 4-1 run to tie the game, 10-10. After both teams exchanged points, Paraskevov and Baily ended the match with consecutive kills to claim victory for the Knights, 15-13.
