WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - The Arcadia University men's soccer team dropped a tightly-contested conference opener at Lycoming College, 1-0, on Saturday afternoon.
Jake Varrato led the squad with a season-high eight saves, while facing 16 total shots.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Varrato kept the Warriors off the board with two consecutive saves off a corner kick in the 19th minute. The senior keeper stopped an attempt on the bottom right side of the net, before shutting down another strike to the center of the goal. The Knights offense answered with a run moments later, but
Logan Stafford's attempt was denied by Lycoming's goalkeeper.
- The Knights held the Warriors scoreless for the opening half as Varrrato led the way with four saves. However, Lycoming found the back of the net on its first attempt of the second half in the 50th minute of play.
- Varrato made several key saves down the stretch while the Knights tallied two shots on goal, but Arcadia was unable to even the score.
